Bounty Hunter School

According to the Las Vegas Now website, there is now a Bounty Hunting School set up to train people the art of bounty hunting and how serious the job is and how intense it can be.

Apparently Bounty Hunters have got a bad rap in the state of Nevada, and now the service is looking to turn things around.  What does it take to become a bounty hunter?  Technically called a “Bail Enforcement Agent” in Nevada?   It’s pretty simple really, you need a clean record and be able to pass a drug test.  You then take a 2 week class that is required by the state.

The bounty hunter career as really become quite popular through shows like Dog the Bounty Hunter, that glamourize the industry and there are students enrolled like Penelope Winkler who says she’s been inspired by Duane “Dog” Chapman.

“To see him and his family go out and do these things together and that’s what I want to do for me and my family”, Winkler said.

Up until 1997, bounty hunters in Nevada did not have to have any formal training.  Then the new law was introduced called NRS 697.177  that was mandated for this class to clean up the industry.  This includes the 80 hour instructional course where students learn about constitutional law, bail law, civil liability, report writing, the care and custody of prisoners and the principals of investigation.
